Abbey Road: The CEDAR Story with Andy Walter and Simon Gibson

The CEDAR Story with Andy Walter and Simon Gibson

25 August 2023

The history of Abbey Road and CEDAR goes back to 1988 when - even before the CEDAR name had been coined - the Signal Processing Laboratory at Cambridge University collaborated with EMI during its initial research into audio restoration. Once the company had been formed, CEDAR Audio's Managing Director, Gordon Reid, sat down with Chris Buchanan (Abbey Road's Manager Of Transfer Operations) to discuss the installation of the newly released CEDAR Production System and, in December 1991, the Studios purchased CEDAR System serial no. 000017. CEDAR quickly established an excellent relationship with the Studios, and they upgraded through various revisions of the CEDAR Production System, then to CEDAR for Windows, and then to CEDAR Cambridge, version 14 of which (released earlier this year) is still in day-to-day use.

Earlier this week, Cameron Colbeck sat down with the Studios' mastering engineers, Andy Walter and Simon Gibson, to find out more about Abbey Road's history with CEDAR. You can read the whole story here:
