Announcing the winners of the inaugural CEDAR Awards

The CEDAR Awards 1998

27 September 1998 - 105th AES Convention, San Francisco

CEDAR Audio Limited announced the inauguration of The CEDAR Awards at the 104th AES Convention held in Amsterdam earlier this year. The Awards recognise outstanding contributions in the field of audio restoration and nominations were invited in each of the following categories:

  • CD Remastering from a Modern Recording (post 1949)
  • CD Remastering from a Vintage Recording (pre 1950)
  • Post Production of a Film Soundtrack
  • Audio Restoration for Broadcast Use
  • Audio Restoration for Forensic Use

Nominations closed on 14th August 1998, and judging is now complete. The company is therefore delighted to announce the winners of the 1998 CEDAR Awards.

Sales & Marketing Director, Clive Osborn said, "One of the most pleasing aspects of helping to judge the entries was discovering that CEDAR is used on so many exciting projects. It was also rewarding to have contact with CEDAR users all over the world. We received many notable nominations and choosing the winner in each category was a very difficult task."

Nominations were judged by a panel that included Cambridge Sound Restoration's in-house Audio Engineer, Tony Webster who added, "We listened to many 'before and after' sections within each entry because we were looking for material that had been restored without changing the fundamental nature of the original recording."

Managing Director, Gordon Reid said, "The enthusiasm shown by CEDAR users is outstanding, and we would like to thank the many audio professionals who have submitted entries for the 1998 CEDAR Awards. We would also like to acknowledge the help and support we have received from our dealers and from the press. It is through their efforts that CEDAR now enjoys worldwide recognition and acclaim. Since the Awards will be presented annually, I hope that all CEDAR users (and especially those who didn't win this year) will enter in 1999, when CEDAR Audio will be celebrating its 10th anniversary within the pro-audio industry."
